Caterham Classic Car Heritage
Founded by 26-year-old Graham Nearn, Caterham Cars Ltd. launched in 1959 as an official Lotus Centre, focused on selling the iconic Lotus Seven, that classic British two-seat sportscar created by maverick engineer Colin Chapman.
Despite being the ultimate embodiment of Chapman’s vision of “simplify, then add lightness”, the Lotus Seven was in danger of fading away by the mid-1960s, until Nearn was inspired to step in and reprieve the car in 1967. Nearn, Caterham Cars and the bodywork business Caterham Coachworks would build 20 Seven S2s, continuing to operate with the sole selling and manufacturing rights to all Sevens by 1973.
Still manufacturing lightweight, powerful sportscars in the United Kingdom today, Caterham Cars are a byword for driving purity. Their ongoing belief in Chapman’s motorsport-inspired ambitions has seen the creation of Caterham vintage and modern classics including the Caterham Seven, Caterham Seven 160, Caterham 1700 Supersprint, Caterham HPC, Caterham Super Seven and the Caterham 21.
