Jensen Classic Car Heritage
Designing and selling cars from a young age, Alan and Richard Jensen took their talents to a midlands-based coachworks business called W. J. Smith & Sons in 1931. After assuming control following the death of William Smith, the Jensen brothers renamed the company to Jensen Motors Limited.
The early years saw the brothers producing special bodies for a wide range of cars from Austin 7s to Wolseley Hornets and Morris Minors. Along with releasing cars known as Jensen-Fords, using a Ford V8 chassis.
From luxury saloons to sportscars and commercial vehicles, Jensen Motors most famous creation, the Jensen Interceptor, came to life in 1950. Available as a saloon or convertible, an initial run of 88 Interceptors were built. Powered by the Austin 4.0-litre engine, the lightweight alloy-bodied original Interceptor would remain in production until 1958, before the name was re-introduced with the modern Interceptor FF in 1966. The same year, the two Jensen brothers resigned from the board, leading to changes in ownership and, eventually, dissolvement.
Despite the company’s decline, Jensen Motors was responsible for many innovative and exciting cars of the day, producing future classics including the Jensen S-Type Continental, Jensen 541, Jensen 541 De Luxe, the first production car to have disc brakes on all four wheels, Jensen C-V8, Jensen FF and the Jensen GT.
