Peugeot Classic Car Heritage
One of the classic French marques, Peugeot was originally founded in 1810 as a family run steelworks company producing industrial tools, kitchenware and bicycles. It was Armand Peugeot who re-focused efforts to build Peugeot’s first automobile, a steam-driven 3-wheeler in 1889. Four-wheeled internal combustion cars soon followed from 1890, with the Type 2 leading early development of a number of ‘Type’ Peugeot combustion cars.
Inspired by their early automotive efforts, Peugeot went on to enter the world’s first motor race, the Paris–Rouen, in a 3 HP that would finish as the first-placed combustion car.
Beginning a long legacy of Peugeot motorsport success that continues today. Whether launching the first unibody car in 1948 with the Peugeot 203. Producing the world’s shortest four-door saloon of the time in the Peugeot 104.
