TVR Classic Car Heritage
Named after founder Trevor Wilkinson in 1946, Trevcar Motors was a Blackpool-based general engineering works. Wilkinson was soon joined by local car enthusiast Jack Pickard, creating a new partnership that would see Trevcar Motors evolve into TVR Engineering.
In 1949, the first car, TVR Number One, would be produced in the shop. Deploying a live rear axle from a Morris Eight, independent trailing arm front suspension, and an old 1,172cc Ford side valve engine with 35 HP, this aluminium bodied British racing green machine was swiftly crashed and re-used for parts.
TVR Number Two followed in its predecessors’ footsteps, and remains a historically-significant car that is still in private ownership today, before TVR began experimenting with sports saloons and customer-built kit cars into the early 1960s. Despite financial difficulties and relationship rifts, Wilkinson’s early belief in lightweight tubular chassis, front-engined, rear-wheel-drive performance sportscars remains within the marque’s DNA.
Highlights for classic sportscar enthusiasts include the TVR Grantura, TVR Vixen, TVR Taimar Turbo, TVR 420 SEAC, TVR Griffith, TVR Griffith 500 and modern classics such as the TVR Chimaera and TVR Cerbera. All as engaging as they are irksome with their many endearing home-grown eccentricities.
